Hi,

I have an S7 with Fm 453 module controlling 2 servo motors with incremental encoders working together on a large linear axis.Machine runs ok but throws faults almost every day. One of the faults show up as the error shown below. Problem is we do not run our system in Open loop control mode at all. The fault occurs when in MDI or Auto or when transitioning between these 2 modes. When looking at the Fault table it is like the Error Class and Number are the wrong way around. We have another error that occurs that also makes us think the Class and error no. list in the Fm453 manual (chapter 11) are the wrong way around? Is this possible that the manual could be wrong? Any help much appreciated....

Diagnostic interrupt.

Cause

When operating in “Control” operating mode with soft limits dis- abled, the traversing range beginning was passed.

Effect

The limit switch position is passed by the necessary stopping dis- tance.

Elimina- tion

Following acknowledgment of the error, it is possible to traverse to the working range.

HI m.f.g and thanks for the reply. I am not sure what you mean by "opened up your stopping/ traversing limits? I think our faults are caused by mechanical movement in our system. I just need to understand what the fault codes actually refer to so i can fully understand exactly how the system works. We have a lot of mechanical variables in our system and it only needs to be accurate to about 5 mm so once i understand better i am thinking i might be able to open up some tolerances in the servo settings to stop most of these faults occurring.
